I was so excited when this mom contacted me for a session. With just her and her beautiful boy there isn't a second set of hands around the house to capture all those precious moments of daily life. I gladly came over! We captured everything from the morning playtime on the bed, to feeding and bath time . . . and of course everything in between. You have such a handsome little boy! I can't wait until we meet again.

This family came all the way from Australia for their session . . . Well that might not be totally true, but they are from Australia. They came back to show off their baby boy to friends and family, and I was lucky enough to be the one to capture this precious time! Congratulations Anna and Dean! He is a stunner :)

Little Boy Blue

I had a fantastic session with this little one and his parents. Grandma had gifted them a Baby Bundle Package she won at the Lewis and Clark Montessori Charter School Auction. and so are MINI SESSIONS! I love capturing the freshness of spring. This spring I will be offering mini sessions (up to 3 people, or immediate family). These images will be great for upcoming holidays like Mother's Day and Father's Day, or just to update your photographs.

A specific date has yet to be set as I am waiting for the forecast to show a bit more of a hint of sunshine and warm weather. So be on the look out for the date to be announced.

The $125 mini session will include one 11x14, one 8x10, and 8 wallets. In addition $50 of your mini session fee will be donated to Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, an organization I support by volunteering my time for.

I had been waiting to post this happy little one as my Valentine Day card to the blog followers . . . but of course things didn't turn out as expected yesterday. Instead of posting I spent the afternoon up at Emmanuel for a NILMDTS session. I had intended to have a nice family dinner with my three sweet Valentine's at home, but what better expression of love to be with a family, saying goodbye to their precious baby, and capturing every last touch, kiss and breath. My kiddos got extra big hugs and kisses when I returned home from the session. I hope you were able to spend the day with those you love!

I am offering a special that will run through February 28. Book a new session (one that isn't on the books), and pay in full, you will receive your entire session fee ($100) as a credit toward your prints.

Amazing Year!

A year ago, a childhood friend became a mother. Unfortunately her baby boy was met with many obstacles, and not a good prognosis. He spent time in the NICU recovering. When he was released all signs were pointing in a positive direction, though there were many uncertainties of what his life would hold.

I had the great privilege of meeting B. when he came home from the hospital. You may remember these images of his happy family, and cute chubby cheeks.

Here is B. and his happy family one year later. It is abosolutely a miracle how well this little boy is doing. You would never guess the seriousness of his health in his first weeks of life.

Every Monday I send out an update for the photographers in the area that are a part of NILMDTS I am going to make a go at getting my blog back on track and making Mondays the day to update the blog as well. So be on the lookout for another post in a few days.

Going back to . . . October. This little cutie's mom hosted a portrait party.

What is a portrait party you ask? It runs like other types of home parties. The host invites a few other families to get together for photos of the little ones while having a playdate for the kids. The host earns great discounts on photographers, the guests get a complimentary mini-session and can take advantage of monthly specials, and everyone has a great time at the playdate.

An Honor!

The "D" family called just before Thanksgiving to try and sneak in a session over the holiday. She mentioned that "everyone" was in town. I didn't fully gather what that meant until they all showed up to the studio. Everyone had gathered to meet the newest member of the family. Grandparents were here from Hawaii. Auntie was visiting from Texas, and her hubby had come home on military leave from Afghanistan. This was truly a family reunion and I was completely honored to capture their short time together.

And I couldn't resist capturing a solo of this angel in the little hat she came in with!

Supporting the Community

Whenever I can I like to try and find ways to support the local community. When the plans started coming together for an outdoor area for the preschool my daughter attends, I suggested a fundraiser. The most recent fundraiser I did for them was mini-sessions in the park, which raised more than $200 for the outdoor area. Here are a few favorite shots from some of the families that attended.

I photographed this family a few weeks back. What a wonderful family, with five great kids! It was definitely a busy afternoon! Mom definitely gets bonus points for the great coordination of outfits. I can wait to see the wall design with new prints!

I met up with this family at the Edgefield McMenamins. One of my favorite photography destinations. The scenery is beautiful and divers, there is room for the kids to be kids, and fun places to eat at the end of the session. This family enjoyed all three. And I enjoyed them!

I had the pleasure of working with two guys this past month. They were probably glad to get the senior portrait session checked off of their list.

We have A representing Clackamas High School. And represent well he did. All of his images were taken on campus at the school.

And T representing David Douglas High School. He's come a long ways since seeing him in the hallway of Ventura Park Elementary from my teaching days.

I had the privilege of photographing two beautiful bellies recently. I often get questions regarding a location for a maternity session. As you can see here, one couple opted for the outdoor setting, another for indoor. Both sessions turned out gorgeous! I say where ever you are comfortable is the best place for your maternity session.

And the best part about a maternity session you might ask . . . that would be the little bundle of joy I get to photograph in a few weeks! I can't wait to meet your little ones. The countdown is on :)

One of the reasons I prefer to photograph sessions outside when the weather cooperates is for the sake of the kids. In most cases they are much happier and have the best expressions to capture. Especially when they can get a little dirty :) Not to mention the beautiful scenery you can find for a backdrop!

When booking a session time of day always comes up. When working with children making sure we are on their schedule is the most important detail. I remind parents to take into consideration nap time and meal times since rested children and full children give us the best shot for cooperation.

If schedules allow, or we are working with older children then light is another big consideration for me. And look what happens when you meet the sun going down on top of Mt. Tabor. Of course it doesn't hurt that I was photographing a gorgeous family as well :)

A Love Story

Usually when I receive a call from the hospital I have to prepare myself for the sadness and emotions that come along with a NILMDTS call. But I was pleasantly surprised Sunday when the call from a local hospital was much different. The hospital had a family that was adopting a newborn and they wanted newborn pictures that the birth mother could be a part of. There was so much love from both the birth mother and the adoptive parents for this little girl. It was such an honor to be able to create these special images for a truly special family. Meet the three day old little sweet pea! Look at all that hair!

Big brother was my first newborn several years ago, so I was especially honored to continue the tradition and watch this little on be a star! And that he was. He slept almost the entire session. Sunny Days Ahead!

The glimpses of the sunshine that we have been having are getting me a bit excited for the sunny shooting season. These two lovely families wanted to take advantage of the sunny weekend last week, even if it was a little chilly.

With this little man we were on a mission. The family ordered a beautiful canvas of big sister when she was 3 1/2 months old and they wanted one to match for their handsome little guy. Here are a few from the snaps.

This darling little girl had no trouble providing me smiles to capture. Her pink outfit was amazing with the green grass. She was so fun to engage with. I love three year olds!

ABC's and 123's

My kids LOVE to read. As an educator that makes me extremely proud. When they were learning their letters both kids had the same favorite alphabet book. The book featured actual photographs of children doing things that started with specific letters. I think it was the photographs of children that drew them in. Recently I began thinking how great it would have been if they had alphabet books that featured themselves as the stars. Though they are both past that stage, it may be the perfect idea for your child.

So I grabbed a two year old friend, spent a little over an hour "playing", and this is what was created.

Here is featured a custom designed, lay flat, press printed book that features "K" man as the star. Now he has his own learning tool to help master those letters.

Miracle Boy!

This little one had a rough start to his life, but through lots of prayers and time for healing he is doing great and is obviously the light of his parent's eyes. I was very honored to be able to create these images for a special family that has been through too much!

He started out wide awake. He was very hesitant to miss any of the party. But when he finally fell asleep we created these :)

I met this little one when she was just a few months old at a session for her handsome brother. Well her family invited me to their home last week for a session of her own. Mom and Dad's red bed was the perfect location to show off her cute outfit. Let me tell you this girl is ON THE MOVE! I'm not sure she held still for more than a few seconds the entire time. News in the New Year

It's been a long time . . . way too long. I apologize to all the followers. Those few months before the holidays get crazy, both with business and personal life. But now that things are at a more manageable pace, hopefully I can get my blog back on track. I will probably be posting a lot over the next few days as there is a lot to catch you up on. But for now I will start with some exciting news.

I now have studio space available for sessions. Of course my preference is to still meet my clients outdoors where the kids have space to roam. And newborns are still ideally photographed in their own home where all the diapers, wipes, and other necessities are, but for those of you that would prefer to do a session at my place instead of yours, it is now available.

I have joined Studio 21 which is a shared studio space. There are many lighting options, backdrop options, and even some new props to incorporate. I look forward to having this options for the unavoidable wet weather days! The space is located near OMSI right near the bridge and waterfront locations I love to shoot.

I photographed this handsome set of brothers down at a park on the Sandy River. I have wanted to do a shoot here for a long time so I was excited when mom was open to the location. This cutie has just hit the one year milestone. I photographed her at 3 months, 6 months, and just this week at one year. Baby Bundle participants can also receive a complimentary newborn session if the baby is less that two weeks old. At the completion of the package the family is presented with a DVD slideshow set to music of their precious little one. It is a true keepsake to have this composition of their child's first year. After a string of newborns it was a change of pace to have some older ones to chase around. I had a fantastic session with a wonderful family out at Cook Park in Tigard. There were lots of ducks, sticks, and leaves to keep this little boy occupied. His adorable sister on the other hand was happy to have her mommy and daddy to keep her occupied. Enjoy!

Anyone that has done a newborn session with me . . . and there have been a lot of you lately . . . knows I am patient. I can wait them out. The little boy sure had other ideas. He didn't like the swaddle and we couldn't get him out cold. We didn't get a lot of shots, but the ones I did capture were priceless. Check out his fuzzy hair! Gotta love it.

Oh so tiny

This little one was 10 days old and just six pounds. He was a star to work with. I can't believe all the positioning I did with hardly a fuss. He was much more into taking in his new world than sleeping. It was such a pleasure spending time with this family. They are very lucky to have lots of visitors even mommy's host mom all the way from Japan!

It has been incredibly too long. I have been busy with a Portraits in the Park,

a photography booth at the Just Between Friends Consignment Sale

and now I am gearing up for a rash of newborns, several regular sessions and private Portraits in the Park event, so stay tuned. I have many new poses I have been waiting to try out on my newborns. It should be exciting!!

I hope your spring is off to a good start. I know everyone would appreciate a few more days of sunshine. My summer appointments are starting to fill up. If you are wanting to take advantage of the warm weather now is the time to secure your spot.

Portraits in the Park

I am excited to announce Portraits in the Park ~ Fairview Park. This is in honor of all my East County clients (though anyone that wants to join us can book a session). The date is set for April 18. I have sessions available in 1/2 hour time slots from 9:30am to 6:30pm. I have set aside May 2 as an alternate rain date, but please cross your fingers that the warmer weather arrives by then :)

The sessions are complimentary mini-sessions (30 minutes). Viewings will be online through my website this time, however I will be available for phone consultation for those that like input on designing albums and wall displays.

At least we pretended it was. This family is fantastic, always having a vision for the session. This was the six month session in the Baby Bundle. The goal was to capture this sweet thing in her Easter dress. Goal accomplished. Even though she wasn't so sure of the cold grass, the captures we got were AMAZING!

I can't wait for the summer fun of the one year session. I have some fun ideas up my sleeve!

and sweet as can be. I traveled a couple hours down the road to meet this little peanut. She weighed just over 6 pounds at the shoot. Mommy and daddy were all prepared when I got there with the heat turned up so she would be nice and sleepy. Well little missy had some ideas of her own about sleeping. Fortunately you can almost always wait them out. She finally gave in the last half hour and dozed off for me :)

I am working on all the edits. I have picked a couple of my favorites to get you through the next few days until the set it complete.

Many of you frequent my FAVORITE coffee shop Sip & Kranz. Although their coffee is still to die for, I was SOOOOO disappointed to hear the news that the kids playroom has closed. Not only did I like to meet my girlfriends there, or take my kids there for a special treat, but it was a great way to meet many of you, my most loyal clients. It seems that Portraits in the Pearl will be no longer.

I am now looking for a new location for Portrait in the ???? (park?). Where would you like to see an event for Spring '09?

National Charity Model Search

The Portland area deadline for entries is February 11. The contest is available for children ages 18 month - 14 years. I will submit images for all children that meet the age requirements and complete session before February 11.

There are several levels of prizes. One winner from Pure Image Photography will be awarded a session album for a future session.

The Portland area winner will be asked to model for an upcoming photography workshop with Sandy Puc´ and will also be eligible to win the National Prize including a $5000 US Savings Bond, a Canon PowerShot G10 camera, and other various prizes.

Please contact me as soon as possible with questions or to schedule your session as our time frame is short!

Of course if you do not meet the age requirements for the contest, you can still schedule a session during this time!

Going green . . . well sort of.

Pure Image Photography is getting a new look. I have been losing sleep over the design for weeks now. After many drafts, designs, and color schemes here is the new look.

Now you might say "but I like the old one" . . . and so do I. However, I have come to a point where things need to coordinate. The logo, with the website, with the packaging and presentation. And they all need to match my photography style. Which is more simplistic than foofy. I still have some details to work out. The website will be going through a few changes. You will notice your orders coming in beautifully coordinated packaging very soon. Thanks for you patience while everything takes shape.

A few other important notes and upcoming events!
* Pure Image Photography will be participating in the National Charity Model Search ~Tots 2 Teens. You can read about it here. This will benefit the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep charity I mentioned in a previous post. For those of you on the email list you will be receiving more information about this shortly. If you are not on the email list you can sign up by visiting the website home page and entering your email address. I will also be posting more information on the blog.

The Season of Giving

Giving is a very important need in my life. Formerly, as a teacher, I had many opportunities throughout the year for giving. There were often students in my school or classroom that could use extra assistance. Our school faithfully gave out more than 25 Christmas baskets to families in our school.

Now staying home with my children, although I give to them everyday, I was missing the good feelings you get when you help someone truly in need. I had to seek out places to give using my talent of photography. Last holiday season I took family portraits for residents staying in My Father's House, a non-profit homeless shelter for families with children. Recently joining Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep has helped fill that need for giving.

This year I have also connected with Bethany House. This is a wonderful non-profit home here in Gresham for expectant teen mothers. I am able to take intimate, professional images of these newborns when they are born. I have posted the two newest babies to the home. Another one should be here by February.

If you are looking for a place to give this holiday season, please consider these wonderful non-profit charities. They could all use a little help this holiday season!

Christmas Craze.

It has been busy and cold, but the sessions just keep coming. Here are a few from the past few weeks. I had a great time making cards this year for many of you. I will show them off after the holidays so I don't ruin any surprises for those of you still mailing them out.

2008 has been a fantastic year for Pure Image Photography. I will be spending some much anticipated time with my family over the next couple of weeks. My kids are definitely excited about some extra mommy time (like they don't get enough already :) and my husband is looking forward to me being around a little more. I will also be taking this time to reflect on the business aspect of things finding ways to improve. There are some big changes coming so stay tuned!

Sunday morning started bright and early with this 5 day old. The session was by far my easiest newborn session to date. Everyone was relaxed and we just went with the flow. All of it :) Don't worry . . . everything washed up clean!

I spent a COLD, breezy, and sometimes downright windy Sunday afternoon with a fantastically, photogenic senior from David Douglas. We started at the waterfront and ended in Troutdale. I am sure she was glad to warm up when all was said and done.

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

October is recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. The Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation holds its Annual Fund Drive for six weeks starting in mid-September and ending in October. I have recently become a part of this remarkable organization and wanted you all to know about it.

For those of you not familiar with NILMDTS it provides photographic mementos at no cost to families that have lost a baby at birth or shortly after. I encourage you all to consider donating to this fund drive to help continue to make this opportunity available to all parents that may one day need it.

As a photographer taking portraits of your own kids can be tough. This year I am proud to say I have their yearly photos done in a timely fashion . . . which doesn't always happen. So presenting the VERY 2 Miss Molly.

She is my little firecracker! I am not sure where the personality comes from ;) A little bragging from Mommy (sorry Molly, I know you won't think this is so cute when you are 15) she potty trained herself the week before she turned two and she is now sleeping in a "big girl" bed. Say goodbye to the crib and diapers!!!

So I walked into my newborn session today and to my huge surprise the new mommy was a classmate from college. It sure was fun to see you again Karen and to meet your beautiful family. I am glad we accomplished the "sleeping" pictures today.
